Social Procurement

Social procurement considers how procurement, the process of buying goods and services, can positively impact the social well-being of communities and assist to reduce poverty, promote economic and social inclusion, and support local economic development and social enterprise. It fosters an enabling environment by embedding supply chain diversity and workforce development initiatives within procurement processes to promote inclusive economic growth.

McMaster University is committed to use its purchasing power to benefit local economies and to provide fair access to its procurement services by providing additional opportunities to underrepresented businesses and communities.

Social Procurement Vendor Portal

To promote social suppliers, McMaster University has partnered with York University to encourage diverse suppliers to onboard York’s University’s Social Procurement Vendor Portal.

The Social Procurement Vendor Portal program is an opportunity for diverse suppliers and social enterprises to register their interest in having their business listed in a Social Procurement Vendor Portal used by multiple universities.  McMaster University community members, York University community members and other partner institutions will be able to search the publicly available directory when seeking to purchase goods and services.

Please follow the instructions on the York University website and note that being on this list does not guarantee future contracts with McMaster University.

Please also note that this portal is a tool for supplier diversity identification and does not negate the requirement to follow McMaster University Strategic Procurement Policy SP-01.
